Why I Co-Founded One Step Up Tutoring

Suhani Sengupta, Founder

Driven by a passion for STEM, I founded "One Step Up Tutoring" in 2021. It all started with helping my younger brother with his third-grade math during the pandemic. As word spread, I began tutoring his friends, then friends of friends, and soon recruited peers to join the initiative.

At the age of 13, I faced several challenges, including gaining acceptance as a young tutor and addressing some students' short attention spans and learning gaps in STEM. By adapting innovative teaching methods and collaborating with other tutors, we were able to develop a structured program for Pre-algebra, Algebra-1, Geometry, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

Over time, we helped over 200 students worldwide improve their grades and truly understand STEM concepts. The impact went beyond academics—many students developed a genuine love for STEM, with some even forming the FTC Robotics team. Former students also returned as volunteers, eager to support others. Their enthusiasm fueled One Step Up Tutoring's growth into a vibrant community of curious learners and committed educators.

One Step Up Tutoring is dedicated to providing STEM tutoring to middle and high school students. Our mission is to encourage youth to STEM subjects through virtual and in-person classes, offering opportunities for academic growth and personal development.

Aakash Sengupta

Vice President

8th Grader (Spanish, Science, and Math Tutor)

He is a Johns Hopkins CTY scholar and a basketball fanatic. He loves mathematics, and he got a perfect score on the AMC 8 in 2026. He represents his middle school in math competitions, such as MATHCOUNTS. He is also member of the Watts NXT? FTC robotics team.

Keya Ogale
